725. WE-Heraeus-Seminar — Magnetic Small Angle Neutron Scattering – from Nanoscale Magnetism to Long‐Range Magnetic Structures
30 May 2021 - 03 Jun 2021 • Tutzing, Germany
Organizer:
Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation seminar
Abstract:
This WE-Heraeus-Seminar focuses on the technique of magnetic small angle neutron scattering, which is one of the most important methods for magnetic microstructure determination in condensed-matter physics and materials science. Magnetic SANS provides access to bulk properties and yields, quite uniquely, information on the mesoscopic length scale (roughly 1-1000 nm). This is an important size regime where many macroscopic materials properties are realized. Currently, the magnetic SANS community can be roughly subdivided into two larger groups: the research of one group is anchored in the domain of condensed-matter physics with a focus on fundamental questions such as skyrmion crystals and topological spin structures, complex long-range-ordered spin structures, and vortex lattices in superconductors, while the second group of scientists employs the magnetic SANS method for scrutinizing nanoscale magnetism in terms of a micromagnetic continuum description; materials classes which are studied are e.g. permanent magnets, magnetic steels, nanoparticles and ferrofluids, or complex alloys.

Gordon Research Conference — Spin Dynamics in Nanostructures
11 Jul 2021 - 16 Jul 2021 • Les Diablerets, Switzerland
Abstract:
In the front of new phases and regimes, the realization of magnetism in two-dimensional materials, continues to challenge our prior understanding of magnetism at the verge. These two-dimensional systems have many topological regimes that are now beginning to be explored, connecting strain – through phonons – directly with their electrical and optical properties. This has also created a bridge to magnetic topological systems, where magnetism, topological quasiparticles that affect dramatically Hall transport and spin-current generation, have come together to bring new paradigms in magnetic order manipulation. This GRC will provide an open platform for new questions and challenges in these highly active and emerging areas of spintronics, nanomagnetism, and magnonics.

IWMNT 2021 — International Workshop on Magnetic Nanowires and NanoTubes 2021
30 Aug 2021 - 03 Sep 2021 • Waischenfeld, Germany
Abstract:
Magnetic nanowires are now a mature topic. Although it started more than three decades ago, it thrives more than ever with new synthesis directions including tubes, core-shell and other three-dimensional designs, and an increasing number of investigations and functions revealed in single elements. Close connections exist with emerging topics such as 3D and curvilinear nanomagnetism and 3D spintronics. These research directions provide both opportunities for new frontiers of knowledge and potential for disruptive devices exploiting the third dimension of space. While these topics are present at international conferences, they rely by nature on an interdisciplinary effort involving various communities from chemists to experimental and theoretical physicists, who often do not have the opportunity to meet directly. The aim of IWMNT is to provide a common meeting point for all scientists involved in the research and applications of magnetic nanowires, nanotubes, and more generally 3D magnetic architectures.

Spin Cavitronics IV - optomagnonics, cavity spintronics
28 Sep 2021 - 02 Oct 2021 • Sendai, Japan
Abstract:
This workshop is going to be the fourth in a series held previously at the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Erlangen 2017, as a SPICE workshop in Mainz 2018, and at the Cavendish Lab., Cambridge 2019 that started after the discovery of strong coupling between photons and magnons. This breakthrough elevated magnons to become alternatives to e.g. photons and phonons as conduits of quantum and classical information. Research on the interaction of photons and magnons is referred to as optomagnonics, cavity spintronics, and spin cavitronics, with increasing inclusiveness with related fields. This workshop series aims to provide a platform for new developments in the core issues of spin cavitronics. We invite the spintronics and magnetism community since the expertise in magnetic materials and devices is essential. The workshop will also provide interfaces to related fields such as optomechanics, atom optics, quantum optics, and quantum information with similar concepts, goals, and techniques.
