Technological breakthroughs in the energy transition hinge on finding earth‐abundant materials that can convert between electricity and chemical bond energy at a faster rate for a prolonged lifetime. This mission can only be accomplished with a fundamental understanding of the solid/liquid interfaces, also known as the electrical double layer (EDL), at which most important conversion processes occur. However, we are struggling with precise measurement and high‐fidelity modeling of basic thermodynamic quantities, notably the capacitance, entropy and surface stress, of EDL. It is thus imperative to bring together scientists with a wide range of expertise in experiments (single‐crystal preparation and characterization, electrochemical impedance, microcalorimetry, etc) and theory (continuum theory, molecular dynamics simulation, density functional theory, machine learning potentials) to discuss these specific topics in a level of depth greater than that in regular scientific meetings and conferences.

European Materials Research Society with the Foundation Jean-Marie Lehn

The 2026 Spring Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) organized with the Foundation Jean-Marie Lehn will be held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre of Strasbourg (France), from May 25 to 29, 2026. The conference will consist of 24 parallel symposia with invited speakers, oral and poster presentations assorted by a plenary session to provide an international forum for discussing recent advances in the field of materials science. The meeting will be augmented by an exhibition of products and services of interest to the conference participants. The latest scientific results will be presented and authors are invited to submit papers in the selected journals that fit the scope of each symposium. The focus of the scientific program will be both on fundamental investigations and technological applications, providing an international forum for discussing recent advances related to the different aspects to be considered to promote innovation.
