Third ESS and ILL European Users Meeting
05 Oct 2022 - 07 Oct 2022 • Lund, Sweden
Organizer:
This User Meeting is co-hosted by the European Spallation Source and the Institut Laue Langevin.
Abstract:
In 2018, ILL and ESS hosted their first European Users Meeting in Grenoble. This successful meeting provided the opportunity to review the achievements of the user community, present the current status of ILL and ESS and, most importantly, to look forward to the scientific opportunities ahead for neutron science. In 2020 we met remotely and we look forward to an in person hybrid meeting in Lund in 2022. The future of neutron scattering is bright, and requires both facilities and the user community to take a proactive and strategic approach to navigating and managing the changing availability of neutron instruments in a holistic way, in order to ensure the sustainability and vitality of this important research technique. As Europe’s two multinational neutron facilities, we would therefore like to invite you to the ESS and ILL European Users Meeting.

ADD 2022 — 5th Edition of the School and Conference on Analysis of Diffraction Data in Real-Space
16 Oct 2022 - 21 Oct 2022 • Grenoble, France
Organizer:
Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) and The European Synchrotron (ESRF)
Abstract:
The ADD2022 School and Conference aim to deepen the understanding and to further the training of the various communities working on real-space data analysis for neutron and x-ray diffraction techniques. Fourier transformation of diffraction data into real-space, traditionally used for the structural determination of liquids and glasses, is now increasingly employed for partially-disordered crystalline powder samples, as well as for single-crystal samples exhibiting some local atomic disorder, and most recently for short-range spin-spin correlations in disordered or frustrated magnetic systems (in the case of neutron diffraction). The scientific scope of ADD2022 pertains to both x-ray and neutron diffraction techniques, and will again include single-crystal diffuse scattering as an integral part of the School and the Conference.

Gordon Research Conference — Neutron Scattering
25 Jun 2023 - 30 Jun 2023 • Ventura, CA, United States
Abstract:
Neutron scattering has been used as a material’s probe since the first neutron experiments in the 1930’s. It is a versatile technique, with unique characteristics, that helps to ‘see into materials in a special way’. It is used to study materials in a wide range of areas and with a variety of applications, from biomaterials for medicine and agriculture, to energy materials for storage and tackling climate change, to structural materials under real-life conditions, to quantum materials for energy, information technology, and sensing applications. As such, neutron scattering methods are contributing to making our society more sustainable, to protecting the planet and to improving the lives of everyone everywhere, now and in the years to come. This GRC will showcase the role of neutron scattering in improving well-being and progressing society, specifically in helping tackle some of our current societal challenges.
