JCNS Workshop 2020 — Trends and Perspectives in Neutron Scattering: Quantum Materials From Bulk to Nano
13 Oct 2020 - 16 Oct 2020 • Tutzing, Germany
Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), Forschungszentrum Jülich
A tremendous interest in the fundamental research of quantum materials has been triggered by the recent improvements in superconductivity and magnetism in low dimensions, by the realization of emergent quasi-particles such as skyrmions and magnetic monopoles, as well as by the potential applications of such systems for future information technology. As unique probe for studying magnetism, neutron scattering matches the entire range of length- and time-scales relevant for many novel magnetic and electronic phenomena. The workshop is devoted to the area of quantum materials in all their forms and it will bring together experts with neutron scattering users to discuss recent developments and trends in the understanding of the magnetic properties of quantum materials tackled by neutron methods and complementary techniques. The workshop will discuss current requirements and developments in such techniques and it is particularly dedicated to novel and upcoming experimental opportunities to discuss the scientific options and capabilities.
Bulk, Frustrated spin systems, Nano and Heterostructures, Low dimensional quantum magnetism, Superconductivity, Models of quantum magnetic systems, Magnetic nanoparticles, Quantum spin liquids, Quantum materials properties at high magnetic fields, Skyrmions
DN2020 — MLZ User Meeting 2020 and German Neutron Scattering Conference 2020
08 Dec 2020 - 10 Dec 2020 • Garching, Germany
This year, the MLZ User Meeting will take place December 08th to 09th and is directly linked to the German Neutron Scattering Conference DN2020 on December 09th and 10th which is hosted at Munich for the second time after 2008. A common poster session is going to link both meetings and will give the opportunity for exchange between the participants of both events.
DN2020 — German Neutron Scattering Conference
09 Dec 2020 - 10 Dec 2020 • Munich, Germany
German Committee Research with Neutrons (KFN)
The German Neutron Scattering Conference DN2020 will be a forum for users of neutron sources and will offer the possibility to get updated on modern neutron methods and to discuss new results and developments. Invited speakers are going to give their view on the role of neutron science today and in the future. Neutron science plays an important role in modern research. New developments, not only in instrumentation, but also in digitalization, enable new types of experiments in all fields of research from particle physics over materials science to life sciences and heritage science, just to name a few.
09 Dec 2020 - 10 Dec 2020 • Garching, Germany
Gordon Research Seminar — Neutron Scattering
06 May 2021 - 06 Jun 2021 • Hong Kong, China
MLZ conference "Neutrons for Life Sciences"
01 Jun 2021 - 30 Jun 2021 • Lenggries , Germany
Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ)
Life Sciences is a rapidly expanding field in the use of neutrons. The number of users at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ) performing experiments related to life sciences is constantly growing. Be it contrast variation for matching out protein, DNA or lipids or the hunt for catalytical important hydrogen atoms, neutrons play an important role in determining structures of biologically relevant molecules or membranes. Neutron tomography on living plants or tissue uses the huge difference in incoherent scattering of hydrogen as compared to deuterium. Using incoherent and coherent inelastic neutron scattering, investigation of equilibrium dynamics of biological systems is possible on the picosecond and nanosecond time scale. With future neutron sources, time resolved investigations will become more and more important. Dedicated sample environment and additional in situ measurement techniques all optimized for small sample volumes will be needed in the future.
Gordon Research Conference — Neutron Scattering
06 Jun 2021 - 06 Nov 2021 • Hong Kong, China
SXNS16 — 16th International Conference on Surface X-ray and Neutron Scattering
14 Jun 2021 - 18 Jun 2021 • Lund, Sweden
The conference is co-organized by the European Spallation Source and MAX IV Laboratory and supported by the Lund Institute of Advanced Neutron and X-ray Science (LINXS).
The conference will emphasize novel techniques for surface x-ray and neutron scattering including instrumentation and source development. Topics will include in-situ and in-operando surface studies, nanostructured surfaces and interfaces, surface and interfaces in soft matter, biological interfaces, emergent interfacial materials, and dynamics of surfaces, interfaces and nanostructures.
15th European Summer School on Scattering Methods Aplied to Soft Condensed Matter,
15 Jun 2021 - 23 Jun 2021 • Bombannes, France
The Bombannes summer school is devoted to the practical «state-of-art» approach to scattering methods, using neutrons, as well as X-ray and light sources - today’s key techniques to study structure and dynamics in systems containing colloids, polymers, surfactants and biological macromolecules. Since 1990 the Bombannes school series introduces, on a fundamental level, the current methodology of static and dynamic scattering techniques and their application to soft matter systems. It provides with a period of 2 years advanced training for young researchers with a working place in European laboratories at post-graduate and post-doctoral level.
