HERCULES 2022 European School
28 Feb 2022 - 01 Apr 2022 • Grenoble, France
HERCULES EUROPEAN SCHOOL is a five weeks course coordinated by the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). The school provides training for students, postdoctoral and senior scientists from European and non-European universities and laboratories, in the field of Neutrons, X-ray Synchrotron Radiation, and Free Electron Laser for condensed matter studies (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Geosciences, Industrial applications). Neutron and X-ray science is integrated with complementary techniques like (but not only) optical and electron microscopy, NMR, optical and THz spectroscopy.
Abstract submission deadline:
17 Oct 2021

The RACIRI Summer School is a joint initiative by Russia, Sweden and Germany in the collaborative framework of the Röntgen-Angström-Cluster (RAC) and the Ioffe-Röntgen-Institute (IRI). The format of the RACIRI Summer School is driven by scientific frontier themes and challenges in the field of materials sciences with a strong connection to the superb analytical potential at current and future research infrastructures for photons, X-rays and neutrons in the Baltic Sea region (synchrotron-radiation and free-electron-laser facilities as well as research reactors and spallation sources). The RACIRI Summer School is held every year under a special focus theme. Its venue rotates annually among the three partnering countries.

QENS/WINS2022 — 14th Edition of the QENS series and the 9th of the WINS workshops
23 May 2022 - 27 May 2022 • San Sebastian, Spain
Following the spirit of QENS Conferences since 1992, the main purpose of QENS is to cover the broad spectrum of scientific activities related with the investigation of material dynamics using quasi-elastic neutron scattering techniques (accessing both, frequency and time domains). QENS 2022 will offer a platform for discussion and exchange of scientific ideas among the experts in this field, and a general overview to newcomers about the capabilities of QENS in exploring atomic and molecular motions and relaxation processes of novel materials. As a novelty, this QENS Edition will explore and exploit the potential synergies between different methods (including experimental techniques and simulations, but always with QENS in the spotlight), in order to face diverse scientific challenges emerging in different research fields.

WINS --the 9th Workshop on Inelastic Neutron Spectrometers– will cover innovative aspects of neutron instrument design. Progresses on new spectrometer projects will be presented. As in previous editions, the theme of “New idea, New concept, New design, New instrumentation for New sciences” will be followed. New developments in the application of polarization analysis, magnetic field, pressure, or improvements in sample environments for soft matter systems will be covered. Software for data acquisition, analysis and instrument simulation will be also part of the program. In analogy with the spirit of QENS 2022, the synergy with complementary methods –in this case mainly with advanced simulations and extensive Monte Carlo simulations—will be emphasized.

PNCMI 2022 — Polarized Neutron School
25 Jul 2022 - 29 Jul 2022 • Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States
NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR)
The Polarized Neutron School will provide a comprehensive introduction to polarized neutrons, techniques and scientific applications. Staff will give a series of lectures focused on neutron scattering techniques and applications for a variety of scientific fields. These lectures will cover small-angle scattering, reflectometry, diffraction/inelastic scattering, and instrumentation. The lectures will be followed by hands-on experiments in small groups and the relevant data reduction process. The school will be held at the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This will provide a useful background before the PNCMI conference. The school is intended for master/doctoral students and young postdoctoral scientists familiar with scattering techniques.
