Adaptive Optics Workshop Week
30 Mar 2020 - 03 Apr 2020 • Porto, Portugal
Organizer:
CENTRA, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)
Abstract:
By gathering a large range of experts in telescope instrumentation, we hope to cover topics ranging from computer-assisted design of astronomical adaptive-optics systems to the post-processing of their observations passing through the on-sky calibration and real-time performance optimisation. We are willing to get contributions pertaining both to the announced and planned 3rd generation instruments for the existing 10m-class telescopes (VLT, Keck, Subaru, Gemini, …) and the next generation of Giant Segmented Mirror Telescopes (ELT, TMT, GMT). Bench experiments and pathfinders are particularly welcome. Workshops are arguably the greatest venues for extended scientific and technical discussions between pairs. Following the very positive feedback of the AO community, the opportunity to hold back-to-back workshops on several inter-connected topics made for a unique, interdisciplinary format that was welcome by many participants.

Channeling 2020 — 9th International Conference "Charged & Neutral Particles Channeling Phenomena"
20 Sep 2020 - 25 Sep 2020 • Riccione, Italy
Organizer:
Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (MEPhI)
Abstract:
The international conference “Channeling - Charged and Neutral Particles Channeling Phenomena” is devoted to the common discussion on advances in physics of coherent/incoherent interaction of relativistic and nonrelativistic hadrons and leptons (protons, ions, electrons, muons and related antiparticles) in strong electromagnetic fields of various origins and structures, from solid amorphous and crystalline to laser and plasma based ones. The topics of the Channeling meetings have been extended to include also the interaction of radiations and beams (wide broad electromagnetic radiations, atoms and neutrons) in various structured media as well as meta-materials to be investigated at the channeling physics approach. One of the main application of the physics of beams channeling relates to the future accelerators, storage rings and radiation optics projects, and it is known as charged and neutral beams novel manipulation techniques, i.e. shaping - collimation and deflection, and acceleration. Recent studies have shown the feasibility of the channeling phenomenology application for description of other mechanisms of interaction of both charged and neutral particle beams in solids, plasmas and external electromagnetic fields covering the research areas from crystal and capillary based accelerators, undulators, waveguides, and X-ray/neutron optical elements.

Interact with fellow engineers, scientists, programme managers and policy makers on the latest developments in sensing, data and signal analysis, quantum science, optical technologies, and funding programmes. Also while addressing the new challenges that continue to emerge: network-enabled capability/network-centric warfare evolve; asymmetric warfare: military operations in the urban theatre; and peace-keeping. The free exhibition offers access to over 30 participating companies as you make connections with suppliers and project partners.
