Lake Como School QRWG 2019 — Quantum Random Walks, Quantum Graphs and their spectra in Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics
04 Aug 2019 - 09 Aug 2019 • Como, Italy
Organizer:
Lake Como School of Advanced Studies
Abstract:
This school aims to introduce PhD students (and early career scientists) in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science to various aspects of the spectral theory of linear and nonlinear operators on networks. During the school we will explore the intricate relations between graphs models in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science and point out similarities between those apparently different research directions which are all combined in the interdisciplinary area of networks.

Summer School "Photonic technologies for harsh environments and space applications”
25 Aug 2019 - 31 Aug 2019 • Frankfurt (Oder) - Germany, Rome - Italy, Italy
Abstract:
The Summer School is organized by IHP - Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics and Materials Science coordination group of University of Rome Tor Vergata. The event will take place at IHP (Frankfurt (Oder) - Germany) and University of Rome Tor Vergata, Department of Industrial Engineering (Rome - Italy) from 25th until 31st of August 2019.

The objective of this summer school: Novel technologies enable the future demands of the society for increasing high speed data transfer and broad band communication systems. Silicon photonics is a key enabling technology which fulfills these demands. Beside these mainstream applications Si-Photonic technologies in particular electronic-photonic-integrated-circuit (EPIC) technologies are foreseen for extra-terrestrial and medical applications as intra satellite communication. For this reasons higher requirements with respect to stability and reliability of components and modules. Purpose of the “German-Italian-Summer-School” is to provide inside view to recent developments in the field of photonics technologies, circuits and systems. Moreover novel developments and challenges for high performance technologies in harsh environments are presented and discussed. We want to teach and discuss these developments and give the opportunity to create the future – join us!

Lake Como School MGDS 2019 — Model guided data-science
02 Sep 2019 - 06 Sep 2019 • Como, Italy
Organizer:
Lake Como School of Advanced Studies
Abstract:
This is a School of “model-guided Data Science”, organized as an intensive training week to familiarize PhD students and postdocs with interdisciplinary and quantitative interests (particularly from math, physics, engineering) to the job and tools of Data Scientist. Through mini-courses and hands-on work on concrete examples, the students will acquire specific skills that characterize modern data analysis. At the same time, they will be stimulated to make the most of the scientific skills and scientific and critical thinking already acquired over their education.

ERICE 2019 - INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF NUCLEAR PHYSICS — 41st Course: Star Mergers, Gravitational Waves, Dark Matter and Neutrinos in Nuclear, Particle and Astro-Physics, and in Cosmology
16 Sep 2019 - 24 Sep 2019 • Erice, Trapani, Sicily, Italy
Abstract:
The purpose of the meeting is to bring together experts and young researchers in the areas of nuclear, particle and astro-physics as well as cosmology and the pertinent interrelations among these fields. The aim is to discuss the current status of the field and to explore future directions, both in experiment and theory. With the recent observation of gravitational-wave signals of black-hole and neutron-star mergers - for the latter in coincidence with electromagnetic signals -, the meeting is particularly timely. The aim is to cover a broad range of topics to elucidate synergies and identify areas of future progress. This should be especially beneficial to the younger participants of the meeting.
Topics:
Binary Star Mergers - the observations of gravitational waves, Binary Star Mergers – simulations, Binary Star Mergers – nucleosynthesis, Direct and indirect Dark Matter Searches, Axions - Dark Matter?, Dark Matter Searches at the LHC, Neutrino Mass from Tritium Decay, Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay (Majorana versus Dirac Neutrino), Neutrino Mass from electron Capture, Elastic Neutrino scattering – COHERENT, The Reactor Neutrino Spectrum Anomaly, Search for the Cosmic Neutrino Background, Neutrinos and Cosmology
